Your Ultimate Styling Guide

The Vibe Check(list), your ultimate guide for creating polished, cohesive and intentional outfits. This tool is designed for everyone, whether you're a fashion novice or a style expert and while its most effective after you've established your Blueprint, the Vibe Check can still be used to help you effortlessly curate looks that reflect your unique style without those initial steps.

Vibe Check(list)

How to Use the Vibe Check

  1. Start with the outfit you have on.

  2. Go step by step through the checklist.

  3. Adjust as needed to ensure balance, polish, and personality.

V - Volume & Visual Fit

Incorporating different levels of volume diversifies your outfit while attention to visual fit helps create that cohesive silhouette . You want movement and dimension, giving a sense of fluidity and life to your outfit.

• Did you add any form volume to your outfit?

* Examples of volume: puffed sleeves, flowy bottoms, bulky sweater, ruffled dress,  oversized top, scrunched socks with leggings, shoes with hight, A-line coat.

• Is your outfit visually tailored to your body? (Are your pants dragging on the ground? Is  your top a true oversized fit or are you drowning in fabric?)

• Does your outfit look polished? (no wrinkles, stains, or ill-fitting pieces)

I - Interest
(Texture & Layers)

Texture brings dimension, richness and introduces contrast and tactile appeal that adds depth to your look. Layers, on the other hand, provide an opportunity to play with proportions and functionality. Texture and Layers create visual complexity, drawing the eye and adding a sense of intention to your outfit. Both texture and layers give your look a sense of depth, keeping the outfit from looking flat or one-dimensional. They allow for personal expression, and are a way to merge style vibes together, creating an edgy glam look or a romantic bohemian look.

• Does your outfit have dynamic elements that catch the eye?

*Examples: knits, leather, corduroy, silk, velvet, suede, lace, faux fur, embellishments

• Can you mix these different textures? (e.g., soft knits with leather, denim with silk)

• Have you layered your outfit?

*Examples: trench coat, vest, blazer, cropped cardigan, turtleneck under sweatshirt

 B - Balance (Proportions)

Managing balance in an outfit aids in the visual fit of creating a pleasing silhouette. By thoughtfully combining proportions, the elements of your look work together without overwhelming each other. Balance helps draw attention to the right areas of your body, it prevents an outfit from feeling too chaotic or mismatched, and ensures that different pieces complement each other with purpose.

• Are you avoiding a 50/50 split? Aim for a 1/3 to 2/3 ratio.

*Example: blouse (1/3) paired with black trousers and black pointed toe heels(2/3)

• Does the overall silhouette feel structured and cohesive?

*Example: most peoples minds go to an oversized top with leggings but balance can be found in wide leg pants with a chunky shoe or high heeled shoe(adding hight), creating a sense of intentional proportions that makes the outfit feel cohesive.

• Did you use a full length mirror?

*In order to truly know if your proportions are balanced, you need to be able to see the entire look. A smaller mirror that cuts you in half will distort your proportions.

E - Express Your Personality

Your style is a reflection of who you are—use color, prints, and patterns to convey your individuality. Color doesn't always have to mean bright, bold, neon colors, It can be added in unique (printed palazzo pants) or subtle (burgundy blazer) ways. Think of those things that make you audibly gasp when shopping and then ask, can you incorporate that into your outfit? For some, that might be a statement shoe, a bold pair of earrings or a blouse with unique detailing.

• Does your outfit include colors, prints, or patterns that express your individuality?

• Have you mixed unexpected elements (e.g., edgy with feminine) to make it uniquely yours?

• Did you add any unique touches that reflect your personality?

• Did you include at least one accessory (e.g., belt, hat, simple jewelry) to elevate your outfit?

• Have you added any accessories beyond your usual choices for an extra touch of intention?
