How to Stop Overthinking Your Outfits and Just Wear the Damn Clothes

Ever find yourself standing in front of your closet, trying on 15 different outfits, and still feeling meh about all of them? Welcome to the overthinking club! 🙃
Even as a personal stylist, I've been there. But let me tell you: Style doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, the more we let go of overanalyzing —Is this trendy? Do I look good? Does this even “go” together?—the easier it becomes to just wear what we love.
So, let’s take the pressure off and bring joy into getting dressed. Here’s how.
1. Remember: Clothes Are Just Clothes
Sometimes, we put way too much pressure on our outfits. But here’s the truth: no one is analyzing your outfit as much as you are. Most people are too focused on their own day to notice the tiny details we stress about.
I once heard on a podcast, “Most people don’t even know themselves—so why does it matter what they think of me?” That stuck with me. If you like something, wear it. Personal style is personal - thats what makes it yours!
2. Dress for How You Feel, Not Just How You Look
Instead of asking, “Does this look good?” try asking, “Do I feel good in this?”
The difference is HUGE. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows—no trend, color analysis, or style rule can replace the confidence that comes from feeling like yourself in your clothes.
3. Accept That Not Every Outfit Will Be a 10/10
Some days, you’ll put together an outfit and feel amazing. Other days, you’ll throw something on and feel fine. And hear me when I say, that’s okay! Not every outfit has to be perfect. The goal isn’t to look flawless all the time—it’s to feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.
Personal style is a journey. Every outfit teaches you something about what you love, what works for you, and what doesn’t. So don’t be afraid to experiment and learn as you go.
4. Challenge Yourself: Wear What You’ve Been Avoiding
If there’s a piece in your closet that you like but always skip over, challenge yourself to style it this week.
Worst-case scenario? You refine your personal style. You realize it’s not for you, clear it out of your closet, and make space for pieces that actually deserve a spot.
Best-case scenario? You just proved to yourself that YOU CAN WEAR THE DAMN THING.
Final Thoughts: Style Should Be Fun, Not Stressful
Personal style takes time to develop, but it should never hold you back from being yourself. Give yourself permission to wear what you love, trust your instincts, and remember—getting dressed should feel good, not like a test.
